The Department

The History Department aims to provide students with a high quality 21st century education that meets, if not exceeds, their learning needs whilst at school and develops a positive attitude to lifelong learning that can be sustained after their time in compulsory education is completed.

The department is keen to develop the breadth of experience open to our students and is actively seeking to develop high standards of teaching & learning based on intellectual methodologies rather than short term initiative.

The History department has been a consistently high performing subject area at the school for a number of years and it hopes to continue the high quality of teaching and learning experienced by pupils.

The department aims to use the strengths of this curriculum area to help move forward the achievement agenda and create a learning environment fit for the 21st century.

The department recognises the challenge for change and the importance of extending those that are gifted and talented, allowing pupils individual opportunity, responding efficiently and strongly to underachievement and disaffection.

In order to do this the department recognises the collective responsibility of the key stake holders and the need for working in partnership with students, parents and the school.
